Torchlight 2: Verdict & Review

About a month since release, Torchlight 2 has been taking up most of my time as expected. But it was all well worth it as the game is everything I expected and more. It is money well spent as where can a gamer get a game that gives them hours of replayability for under USD20.

Here is a quick summary of my views on the game thus far:

  • Gameplay is great and filled with action  as it totally satisfies ARPG fans. Blast and hack your way across hordes of monsters ready to die for their cause.
  • Loot, so much freaking loot! Torchlight 2 is totally not shy on giving players loot. Unlike a certain multimillion dollar title, Torchligt2 rewards player on a acceptable basis with unique loot just enough to keep you grinding for moar. (I have 2 mule characters filled to the brim just after 10 days... Yes, I hoard uniques)
  • Quest NPCs and Bosses are memorable and laughable, making it a ball to play through all the side quest in the game.
  • Random terrain/ map is done beautifully making no 2 map similar (except for boss arenas) and filled with random or set side quests that makes players just want to fully uncover each map they step into.
  • Reward items from quest are actually useful to players and gives a good gear upgrade. There is even a quest that rewards player with a NPC vendor after completing the quest.
  • Item enchanting was quite unbalanced from Torchlight 1 where players would spam enchantment on powerful item all the way. But in Torchlight 2, items can be enchanted up to 3 times and this helps a lot when players want to wear and item that they have outleveled but still want to wear it for its particular stats or not have something better.
  • All class skills have potential and it is up to the player to find which skill synergizes with another skill and how it all compliments to the players intended build. It does not mean a level 1 skill is weak later in game or that a level 42 skill is the best in higher levels.
  • Skill respec has been generating quite a lot of buzz in Torchlight 2 as the game only allows players to respec up to 3 most recent skills taken. This means players can respec skills that they taken early on in the game or respec all skills and rebuild a character. There are 2 sides to this as it is from the makers of Diablo1&2 and it is in their style to keep it that way. This also causes players to replay the game more by remaking new characters to test different builds. Best thing to do now, is to plan your character build with a skill calculator and best one out there is Torchlight Armory.
  • Near endless end game content with Mapworks. The game features a random dungeon generator with special attributes tied to it which players can purchase from an NPC vendor after they have completed the final quest. Pick the attributes and zone, grab a couple of friends and farm till the world ends. Unlike Path of Exile which the maps are dropped from monsters as loot and can be modified afterwards, players can only purchase what the NPC vendor offers. (tip: remaking a LAN game and ticking the reroll  map box cause all NPC vendors to refresh their items on sale but all reseeds all your explored locations.)
  • New Game Plus (NG+) lets players who have finished the game once start all over again with the game adjusted to 51. (not sure if there is a New New Game Plus after completing it once as my Mage just started of NG+ while my Berserker is busy farming Maps.)
  • Resistance matters and Torchlight 2 introduces 2 types of defence against menacing elemental damage. With elemental resistance armor, player reduces elemental damage propotionally from an element. (based on my observations) There is also direct elemental damage reduction by percentage (not sure armor or percentage takes effect first). At higher levels, stacking elemental armor and having a few percentage reductions are key to surviving elite or boss's 1 hit kill skills.
  • Mapworks let characters that have completed the game (kill the final boss in the final act) access the final town zone and purchase Maps (randomly created zones with positive or negative effects applied to players and monsters in that particular map) with gold. This options provides near endless gameplay to players. The monsters within the zones are randomly selected from one of the themes and the boss is also randomized. Players can farm for exp, money, loot or just for fun for 3 levels per map (2 levels of mobs and 1 level with the boss).
  • Patches and updates come frequent and developers address bugs and game balances very well by buffing or nerfing skills when needed.

And heres a quick look at my 2 main characters that I am currently playing:

  • Berserker
    • I play this badass as a dual wielding melee monster equipped mostly with passive skills and area effects skills without any single or focused skills.
    • Relying on passive skills, war cry and battle standard, this playstyle makes the Berserker near indestructable while tanking bosses (with sufficient life drain).
    • Currently at level 68, I kept the Berserker at non Game Plus so that I can play with my friends and level up by farming Mapworks.
    • My verdict on the Berserker is that it is too reliant on Life Steal per hit (either % or X amount) to survive when going toe to toe with elites, bosses or groups of mobs. But does very well when soloing bosses as Berserker does a good consistent flow of damage while taking almost anything the boss can throw at him (as long as  enough HP is stacked)

  • Embermage
    • This is my second character which I started after playing Berserker and it is a totally awesome class to play.
    • During beta in May2012, I felt that Embermage was a little underpower but boy was I wrong. This elemental damage dishing madman mows down mobs and bosses in a jiffy, as long as you don't get hit by boss's instant kill skills.
    • My solution was to stack Hit Points so my Embermage currently has about 8000 HP at level 100 and I plan to get more.
    • Not relying too much on the Charge bar, a lot of my sockets used are Mana Regen per second which is great for letting my Frost Phase (aka Blink/Teleport) around the map limitlessly and spam non-charge building spells for a long period of time.
    • The main thing that made me level my Embermage to level 100 eventhough it was my second character is that it clears groups of mobs so quickly and easily. Mana is almost never a problem even without drinking mana potions.
    • The most powerful spell that kills anything = Flame Pillars. Reason being, it does damage per tick and totally ignores monster armor. With 7 Pillars stacking on a target, it literally dies in miliseconds.

Now I have just moved on to an Outlander since I keep finding so much Outlander gear and guns/bows/xbows. At level 55, I still don't feel it is anywhere as efficient in clearing mobs and bosses like Embermage.

Next on the list is either a caster/frost Berserker or Cannoneer.

All in all, this game proves to be a testament to the great ARPG games that the original makers of Diablo 1 & 2 are able to deliver. Hope they keep it up with their free DLC and expansion/sequels.

I will post my skills and built after I compile the screenshots.

Countdown to Torchlight 2 release.

If you have been living under Blizzy's Failablo shadow, then you might not have heard of Torchlight2. An ARPG from the makers from Diablo1 & 2, Mythos, etc etc.

Basic information about the game.

There is so much content, even Kotaku approves of this.

Link to Kotaku's article.

And here is a simple run down of how much stuff there is compared to the sequel.

Got to love it when game developers are not tied to money grubbing publishers as players end up rejoicing in all the free goodies that the developer willingly throw in to pamper supporters.

Music by the awesome Matt Uelmen (the mastermind behind Diablo1's Tristram town music) has been released in CD quality for free and can be downloaded now.

Link to Torchlight2

Game is due to release via steam just hours away, so quickly head on over to Steam to grab a copy of the game now.

For those who have purchased, you can preload (predownload game files, but there might be additional patch file downloads later on) the game now so you can hop right into the game once it is released in 5 hours time.

Here are the simple steps:

  1. Load Steam
  2. Select View
  3. Open your Game List
  4. Look for your purchased Torchlight2 game
  5. Select it to start preloading.

Marvel has plenty more movies lined up.

If you though the recent THE AVENGERS movie was good, Marvel has plenty more installed for us comic book fan boys and superhero lovers.

Marvel is anything but done with bringing our favorite childhood superhero to the cinema screens. With so many characters, teams and villains to choose from, it is anyone's guess what we will be getting next.

So the latest confirmation on some Marvel films:

  • IRON MAN 3   -   3 May 2013
  • THOR 2   -   8 November 2013
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA 2   -   2 April 2014
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY    -  1 August 2014
  • THE AVENGERS 2   -   Sometime in 2015

Well, that is just the tip of the iceberg it seems as Marvel has more up it sleeve:

* May contain spoilers, read at your own risk, but if you are a bad enough fan, it wouldn't matter.

  • Ant Man - is in the pipeworks and should eventually end up in of the movies above or possibly even a movie on its own before The Avengers 2.
  • Black Panther - has been confirmed to be a hoax and not in production (but we never know right? haha...)

    • A movie of its own as it has an group of characters and storyline.
      • Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, etc.
    • Will tie in with The Avengers (in The Avengers 2 or 3?)
    • Will work together with The Avengers to deal with Thanos (Thanos is the bad-ass revealed in the after credits of The Avengers 2012)

  • Additional things you will want to read up on to get more info about this:

** Click to jump to link

With such a good run with The Avengers 2012, they will have plenty of budget and more experience in handling Marvel movies on a larger scale. Lets hope everything works out and we get to watch all this awesomeness in the next couple of years.

Nexus 7 Tablet: Mega Value for your money

Along with the revealing of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, there was loads of other goodies that Google took time to share and discuss with its developers and users.

One of them that should not be missed is the unveiling of an awesome tablet, Google Nexus 7 Tablet.

This is one monster of a tablet for a fraction of the price you would have to pay for other tablets near similar specs. Not only that, this bad puppy will also run on 4.1 Jelly Bean, fully taking advantage of the latest updates.

All you have to pay for this great piece of technology is:

  • USD199 for 8GB (internal storage) version
  • USD 249 for 16GB  (internal storage) version

That would be like 700-800 Ringgit only! Take my money now!!!

Just try comparing this to the local tablet which a local maker is trying to sell for 999 Ringgit known as 1Malaysia Pad (click to view specs)

Here is a quick rundown on the specs for Google Nexus 7 Tablet:

  • 7 inch IPS display - 1280 x 800 pixels
  • 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3
  • 1GB Ram
  • 12 core ultra-low voltage Nvidia GeForce GPU
  • 8GB or 16GB internal storage
  • WiFi, Bluetooth & NFC (Google Wallet enabled)
  • No 3G model (yet, probably in the near future)
  • Front facing 1.2MP camera
  • No rear camera :(
  • Dimensions: 198.5 x 120 x 10.5 mm
  • Weigh - 340 grams
  • Battery - 4325 mAh

How can someone not love all that sexiness squeezed into a 7 inch tablet for a couple of hundred bucks?

Time to have some Jelly Bean!

While were busy sleeping an all last nigh, Google I/O 2012 kicked off and revealed loads of goodies that will come in the near future. Google introduced it's latest sweet treat mobile OS, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

In a nutshell, Jelly Bean will offer Android users:

  • Framerate has been increased to 60 FPS
  • Vsync is enabled
  • Triple Buffering is enabled.
  • Text Input improvement
  • Voice Typing no longer requires network connection
  • Improved Voice search - time for Siri to hide?
  • Resizeable Widgets - finally, I have been waiting for so long...
  • Improvement to predictive keyboard
  • 18 new input languages
  • Improved CPU utilization - faster is better!
  • Improved Accessibility for the blind
  • Camera App update - pinch to view in film strip
  • Android Beam update- Video sharing via NFC and NFC pairing by just bumping with NFC enabled device
  • Notifications update - now able to make phone calls, view multiple emails, able to expand apps all within the notification shade overlay
  • Revamped mobile search
  • Google Now - gives you search result information at the right time.
    • eg. map/direction searches gives you directions now with how much time to get there, estimated arrival time, etc.

4.1 update will be pushed to some devices like Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S by mid July 2012, so expect it to hit the rest of the newer devices running on ICS after that.

Just some numbers from Google boasting about Android; 1 million Android users are activated everyday up from 400,000.

Microsoft Surface: A Comparison

For those that live in a cave with no internet connection, Microsoft has just recently revealed their new Tablet / Ultrabook called Surface.

It looks totally sexy and after going through the specs, I started throwing my money at the screen and sticking my credit card into the CD slot in hopes of purchasing one NOW! but sadly...

Anyway, quite a few people has been asking what is so great about it, looks like just another tablet, blah blah blah. Well, instead great wall of text, I have made a nice little mashup comparison table.

The Tablet / Ultrabook mashup comparison takes a look at Surface against the top current models available.

Hope the about help put things about Surface in better perspective.

To close things off, here is a video of the product unveiling that took place recently.

Thank You for all the views!

I would think that my humble blog about random stuff would ever see the daylight of reaching 1000 views and beyond but it seems that it is about to happen.

Just a few views away till 1000 views and this is a great encourage for me to continue to write more random boggles of the internet for everyone's reading pleasure.

As a token, I have manage to get my hands on another Dota 2 Beta Key which I will gladly give to the first person to answer the question below by putting your Steam email and answer in the comments,

Is Valve's Dota 2
  1. Pay-to-Play with subscription fee ?
  2. Totally Free-to-Play ?
  3. Free-to-Play with Ethical Micro-transactions ?

Next, I seem to have a couple of spare Path of Exile accounts lying around and will be giving them out in due time, so remember to check back from time to time.

Once again, thank you all :)

Elder Scroll Online: E3 roundup

If you didn't know, E3 just happened and lots of cool games and updates were reveal. One of them is the much anticipated, Elder Scroll Online.

To know more about the game, HERE is a link to my previous post about it.

Asides from the eye candy CGI, the teaser also reveals a few of the classes available,
  • Warrior / Barbarian (beefy, tanky melee) class is shown
  • Mage / Wizard (range caster) class is shown
  • Ranger / Archer / Hunter (range shooter) class is shown

Not much else to add on tn the gameplay as what is shown is more or less already known facts about the game. The graphics and details do look great and glimpses of the cities/town seems to match Oblivion & Skyrim (cities are probably even larger as they are suppose to be hubs in MMOs)

Release date is still unknown and maintained as 2013.
  • Morrowind was released on 4 June 2002
  • Oblivion was released on 20 March 2006
  • Skyrim was released on 11 November 2011
My predictions:
  • Closed Beta: November / December 2012
  • Open Beta: February / March 2013
  • Release: May / June 2013

Diablo, slayed for the millionth time.

*Update 20 May 2012

Only 5 days after released, Diablo has now been slain in Inferno Mode (Hardest Difficulty available).

Mind the static in the start, just skip to 2 minutes.

________________________________________________________________________________

"Armed with a Greatsword of Greed on the right hand and a Stalwart Shield of Avarice on the left, Activision Blizzard lays the finishing blow on Diablo, forever killing the once mighty lord of ARPG"

Greed, avarice, covetousness. Players around the world can claim that have slain Diablo once more and rid the world of Sanctuary of evil. But the true victor here is not the would be players but the corporate giants that stick their hands into the world of game publishing.

Like a nail to the coffin, Diablo's fate is forever sealed as players are getting wise to the con that Acti Bliz served them for $60. As players flooded the login servers upon released, the billion dollar gaming corporation somehow did not anticipated for the massive player swarm.

"As the players entered their username and password, every attempt to log in was like a punch to the might Server. Punch after punch, the machine could take no more and it fell cold on the ground denying millions a chance to face the legions of burning hell..."

With years of experience running the most played MMO in the world and they failed to foresee massive player log in due to DRM?

For this one problem, Acti Bliz has lost much customers that felt it was a waste of their time and money. Just looking at the reviews on Metacritic, I almost laughed myself off the chair. Negative fan reviews are more then double that of positive fan reviews. Of course, quite a large number are fans whining about how they failed to log in, lag/spikes, disconnects, followed by the hate for DRM and lastly are those who really looked into the game and provided critical review on the game itself.

From Metacritic: Behold how the cowardly gaming sites review Blizzy's child with awesome ratings while the truth is only spoken by the players

So it seems that most of my predictions are correct or near the target and here are the main gripes about the game that a lot of players are now finding out:

  • Short game play
    • Koreans finished normal mode in 6 hours? followed closely by Russian, EU, and American players... As of last night, players have completed Act 1 in Inferno difficulty (4th and hardest difficulty)
  • Linear and Predictable storyline
    • Straight forward story, directed story telling and predictable plot. What if I told you there was a plan since Diablo2 that actually sent the player venturing into the High Heavens and they are just reusing this 10 years later for Diablo3?
  • As easy as A, B, C
    • With players easily finishing normal mode and so on without death and some reaching Inferno difficulty on the second day of the game's release, says it all.
  • Uncreative and Unimaginative
    • After losing most of its core creative talent during Blizzard glorious era, they now lack the ability to lead in the innovative category and ends up creating a skill and stat system that allows zero customization. Stats and damage all revolves around gear as there is no other way to modify your stats and skills are given to you as you level without choice.
  • Arcade
    • They have manage to turn an ARPG game into an arcade game turning every boss fight into a battle of dodging boss's 1-hit-kill skills, timing of HP wells (fail pot system), Health globe, kitting and time consuming.

There is no need for me to mention too much a lot of it are now known issues and players start to notice what they actually end up getting after paying $60.

Click here to see my previous predictions and how scarily accurate it was.

Blizzy has also conveniently uploaded all their CGI cutscenes for Diablo3 on Youtube so you can enjoy stunning CGI without having to go through a broken game.

Samsung Galaxy S III

*Update 17 May 2012

Just a quick update on this awesome piece of smart phone. Every time I read more about this phone, I feel like buying it upon release but my S II is still serving me great, sigh at the dilemma...

  • Samsung Galaxy S III will be priced at RM 2199 upon release (same as S II when it was released)
  • Malaysia will be getting the standard model with all stock specs (Exynos quad core, 1GB Ram, etc)
  • There will be a media announcement / unveiling which will probably mention the official release date and price locally.
  • Phone is rumored to be available as early as end of May 2012 (instead of early June 2012)

Still remember about me hoping for S III to have 2GB RAM instead of the 1GB? Well, Japan will have another version of this phone available with 2GB RAM but with a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm S4 processor instead of the stock Exynos quad-core. (A lowered core would supposedly give it better battery life and couple with 2GB RAM, it might work just as good as the quad with 1GB RAM.

________________________________________________________________________________

*Update 7 May 2012

For all those eyeing to get their hands on an S III, you will only have to wait for another month!

It is scheduled to be released in Malaysia early June 2012 (solid source right from Samsung's Regional Director). But I foresee issues of availability as the demand for this little piece of awesomeness is running high and supply would definitely run short.

and for those still having trouble deciding, here is another cool summarized table (courtesy of SoyaCincau) pitting S III with a wider range of smart phones currently in market.

On an overall, it is a good stand between One X and S III. If taking snapshots are your thing, then the One X would be your choice. S III seems to me as a better all rounder. My decision is still wobbly till I get my hands on a test model at their roadshow.

Lets hope Samsung lives up to its expectations of delivering great smart phones.

________________________________________________________________________________

Tagline: designed for humans (so what we have been using is made for?)

For those that weren't aware, Samsung finally revealed their flagship phone today (around midnight for us). After being teased with posters and videos, the phone was ultimate revealed as Samsung Galaxy S III, follow up the successful Samsung Galaxy S II.

Since reviews on the phones are all over the internet like mushrooms after rain, I'll just keep it simple with a summary comparison table with similar smart phones in market currently (courtesy of SoyaCincau).

In terms of software, it is armed with an arsenal of apps made to make the phone more "living" and intuitive to use,

  • S Voice - Voice Command feature (Siri's long lost sister, better half) (Video below)
  • Smart Stay - Detects if you are using the screen and avoid dimming unnecessarily
  • Smart Alert - Reminds you of what you missed as if you can't see it from the screen...
  • Social/Sharing - S Beam (Content Sharing), Social Tag (tagging)
  • And everything else Samsung decided to dish in since its such a power house.

and all this built on top of  the latest Android's Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

S Voice in Action

This is how you test a voice command feature. Passes by recognizing a tongue twister easily and providing an awesome answer.

Packing quite a lot of hardware power, I was hoping for a little more such as 2GB RAM, better battery (with this much power, 2100mAh just won't provide enough sustained juice) and higher megapixel cameras. But on the overall, it is a phone that stands out above the rest of the phone on the market currently and for months to come. (running in the rumor mill is that iPhone 5 will be announced in the October 2012)

From the information flying around, looks like we will be able to get our hands on the phone by end of the month. Keep an eye out on Maxis, DIGI, Celcom, etc for any upcoming promos or deals on this awesome phone.

Guess I will be skipping this since my S II is still doing well....

Elder Scrolls Online: What is known so far.

So if you haven't heard, Zenimax / Bethesda has recently announced their first MMO. Apparently, the game has been in development since 2007 so it should be very polished and set for close beta within the next few months as the release date is sometime in 2013 (PC/Mac).

Set in the world of Elder Scrolls, The Elder Scrolls Online will allow players to venture forth into all the realms present in Elder Scrolls universe. Of course all realms won't be opened initially (probably expansions will unlock more locations) but places like Windhelm, Daggerfall, Sentinel, Mournhold and so on will be open for exploration.

An MMO built on such a rich universe and lore, the game will surely stand out from most current MMOs. To get us drooling for more, here are some of the available information about the game that is known:
(great wall of text coming up)

  • Players can form teams of up to 250 Person
  • Fully voice acted
  • Third person perspective (probably has an option)
  • Utilizes a hotbar to activate skills like other traditional MMOs
    • You have a limited number of skills you can use at any given time, and can change them whenever you're out of combat
    • The number of skills is equal to (paraphrase) "a light and heavy attack with your current weapon that take up the first two slots, a few more spells related to your class, and an ultimate in the last slot".
    • The ultimate is used once you gain enough finesse, which is earned by doing well in combat
  • Sorry, you can't be a werewolf or vampire :(
  • Crafting, alchemy, and soul stones will exist in an unrevealed form
  • Daedric Princes, Molag Bal will be the primary antagonist
  • Constellations will be in the game a la Mundus stones (which work like guardian stones) and also give the answer to things like block puzzles where you step on the blocks in a certain order
  • Tons of towns ranging from Imperial City, Windhelm, Daggerfall, Sentinel, Mournhold, Ebonheart, Elden Root, Shornhelm, Evermore, Riften, and a lot more
  • There will be mounts, but no flying mounts
  • Fast travel exists in the game in the form of wayshrines, which are also your resurrection point, and you can teleport from one wayshrine to any other wayshrine you have already visited
  • There most likely won't be dragons (maybe in future expansions)
  • Sneaking will be in the game, but how it is implemented is undecided
  • No player housing (for now?)
  • No NPC romances or marriage (but maybe with players?)
  • Features most of Tamriel including Skyrim, Morrowind, Summerset Isle, and Elseweyr.
  • Three player factions are confirmed:
    • Ebonheart Pact: Nords, Dunmer, and Argoninans
    • Aldmeri Dominion: Altmer, Bosmer, and Khajit
    • Daggerfall Covenant: Bretons, Redguard, and Orcs
  • Game uses a hubless design
    • For example, you don't necessarily pick up a quest to do the following, but if you kill all the necromancers in an undead barrow, a shade you free at the end will reward you.
    • However, to help you find these events, various NPCs you talk to will tell you where they are happening and put a marker pointing them on your map, which is obviously totally different than receiving a quest.
    • Not all quests will have NPCs that indicate where they are
  • The game uses MMORPG genre standards such as classes, experience points, and other traditional MMORPG progression mechanics, but they try to present it "around the core fantasy presented by traditiona Elder Scrolls games" such as traveling around and righting wrongs or seeking riches
  • The game world is very large relative to Skyrim
  • You can explore almost anything you can see
  • Game is set 1000 years in the past
  • You can't master every discipline
  • *Semi Plot Spoiler* The imperials are an enemy to all three factions, lead by the noble Tharn family and the King of Worms, Mannimarco, and are hatching a plot to take over all of Tamriel
  • *Semi Plot Spoiler*  But BEHOLD, Mannicmarco is scheming with Daedric prince Molag Bal to take over the world behind the Tharn's back
  • Also, your soul has already been stolen by Molag Bal, which is the reason you can come back from death over and over again, and the starting plot is that you're fighting Molag Bal to get your soul back from him
  • Hitting the level cap takes about 120 hours
  • Each faction has their own leveling content
  • The game features three faction PvP where you fight to take over keeps and use trebuchets and other siege weapons to help do it. At the high end, you can have 100 v 100 battles. There are also farms and mines you can try to take over. Most of this happens in Cyrodiil where your goal is to take over and hold the Imperial City to get faction wide bonuses for it. If you have played Dark Age of Camelot, this probably sounds familiar. For those who haven't, essentially the entire zone is a giant PvP area will all sorts of points of interest. (as a PvP fan, I am totally dying to test this)
  • The most accomplished PvP player on your faction becomes emperor whenever you take over the capital
  • When you take over Cyrodiil, you will be able to adventure in it as a hostile city a la Kvatch
  • The game will have raids and heroic modes for its dungeons as end game content in addition to faction PvP
  • There is also balanced PvP for people who prefer eSports
  • The game will also have high end public dungeons
    • Public dungeons are essentially instances that aren't actually instanced, so anyone can be in them, so imagine a World of Warcraft dungeon that featured everyone on the server in the area instead of just your party (finally, another MMO that has public dungeons. Instances are so boringly carebear-ish)
  • There are standard instanced dungeons as well
  • You also get a bonus loot chest if you're soloing and max your finesse, and you can also build finesse by combining with other players
    • For example, a rogue can put oil on the ground that a mage can set on fire
    • A fighter can also spin in the firestorm a mage puts down, which sends out fireballs
    • You can't combo with the abilities of enemy players though, so if an enemy faction player drops an oil slick, you can't set it on fire
  • The Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood will be presented, but in what form isn't detailed as their content is hard to recreate in an MMO setting
  • NPCs will try to work together and use player like behavior when fighting you, and (at least to my understanding) have stamina as well
  • They want the AI to be good, so instead of enemies in a dungeon sitting around and waiting to be pulled, you will be attacked by the entire room and they will try to react to how you are playing
  • You destroy dark anchors to gain reputation with the Fighter's Guild. They are large hooks that fall from the sky pseudorandomly and have Daedric guardians next to them. They are easier to kill with a group, and once destroyed, everyone who participated gets a reputation boost with the Fighter's Guild, and eventually nets you rewards like new skills and abilities. (something like Rift here...)
  • The combat model will not be real time due to latency (huh?)
  • The combat is based around a stamina bar which you can use to sprint, block, interrupt, and break incapacitating effects
  • Blocking is the primary focus of these abilities, and can do things like stopping the secondary effects of attacks such as an ice spell slowing you
  • Stamina also applies to PvP, so stamina management (and wearing down your enemy's stamina) is important, as your crowd control abilities might be on a long cooldown, and if you use them before the enemy player runs out of stamina, they will probably just block the effect
  • Healing is still a big part of the game
  • There is also no aggro mechanic in the game, which is part of the reason stamina blocking and healing exist

Finally... that was a lot of information. Next is to hopefully get some more screenshots, trailers etc. You surely don't need anymore reasons to be anticipating for this awesome game.

Of Tear Gas & Water Cannon

*Updated (29 April)

All local medias focus coverage on damage and destruction to "the government and their armed forces" trying to depict gathers as a murderous horde but no mention to the plights of the unarmed civilians. (got to love local newspapers)

Barely a day over the event, number of videos start surfacing telling stories from various angles.

There is not much to say after watching these powerful videos.

  • When armed forces go out of control, who is going to keep us safe now?
(Video Link)

  • The controversial video of police car ramming into civilians (presumably, lost control of the car)
(Video Link)

  • And here is the a similar video, from the perspective of the police force.
(Video Link)

  • Some footage from Al-Jazeera (even journalists are not spared).
(Link to article about Journalists getting harsh treatment, regardless of their status)
(Video Link)

  • You though having international news channel would give you access to uncensored news coverage? Think again... (can't get more evidence if this video is real, but it seems legit)
(Video Link)

  • More distortions of the public media in order to portray the gatherers and organizers as enemies, and the government as righteous heroes.

<< Will link more as I find them. >>

Unarmed civilians had face off against a firing squad of Riot Police.

With numbers, we can achieve anything and it looks like a statement was well made today.

For our country, defenseless civilians are willing to go toe to toe with armed personnels, that is the spirit.

A summary of the days events can be found HERE.

And a 23 minute video to put it all in perspective.

Click HERE for the Video (can't get it linked cause blogger refuses to show it in search...)

The best part is our beloved leader of this awesome country flees to East Malaysia to rule from a safe zone...

Shows the kind of leadership this country has.

Click HERE for a Video of how the local News channel (TV1) broadcasts distorted news because it manipulated and controlled by the government. (funny how the the new casters can say all that twisted crap with a straight face.

Prime Minister = Superman?

Propaganda has not been seen or used directly since World War II. It doesn't mean that its gone from the face of the earth. In this modern times, it has been carefully masked with layers of distraction to avoid you noticing it's effects.

But it seems that when all else fails, it is best to start digging out old tricks from the bag.

Here are several comics which were apparently given to some school teachers (only selected teachers received them, not sure why) in the country to help "remind" them who is running the country and whom they should vote for in the coming elections.
(books were printed and published by a fake company that does not exist)

Names are not mentioned in the comic but its kind of obvious...
(notice that the real bumiputra didn't put up his finger like the rest?)

The moment I saw this picture and I was reminded of... Oh, the similarities...
(it is standard for propaganda posters to have the ruler which we are all suppose to be thankful of, the proud flag of the nation and the people)

DC comic was lying all the while about Superman saying he is from Smallville, USA. The picture below clearly shows he is from Malaysia, helping the rakyat.

A superhero doesn't look complete until they have an enemies. They all get good amounts of publicity along side the mighty superhero.

I am such a fan now and can't wait for the next issue.
Wonder where I can get my hands on the complete comic.
