It seems G.I Joe: Retaliation will be delayed to 29 March 2012 released instead of the original 21 June 2012. That is a total 9 month delay from the original date. All this is thanks to post filming 3D conversion of the film into 3D.
A little something extra, post filming 3D conversion or post 3D conversion means that a film is first filmed normally (34mm or 55mm films) then it is edited in the studios. Once it is ready, 3D effects that you see on screen are added which can take months, depending on the film and amount of 3D effects they want to achieve. The result of this are shows like Thor, Green Lantern, Harry Potter: Half-Blood Prince, the recent Avengers and many more. The quality of 3D varies and are most of the time rather dark or lack luster in colour depth.
Compared to shows like Three Musketeers, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Step Up 3D, etc., these films are shot with 3D cameras (Fusion Camera System, etc.) and creates a much more vibrant 3D effect and feeling. The feeling of depth perception really stands out in these films unlike those in post production whereby this effect is added in after filming.
Just try this next time you are watching a 3D film, take of your 3D glasses during the show and see if the background details and scenery is blurry (means it is in filmed in 3D) or not (post filming 3D effect).
